Brisbane city council
This project is a comprehensive masterplan of the Gardens precinct in the CBD of Brisbane that included the interface with QUT University, the Botanical Gardens and the ageing Riverstage Amphitheatre.
The brief was to create a 9000 patron world class concert venue that could accommodate a wide range of cultural uses from rock to ballet, Increasing the capacity of the River Stage while not impacting adversely on the Botanic Gardens, QUT or the Brisbane River. The brief also required at least 2000 seats undercover. In addition, the new entry to QUT was integrated with the Masterplan and a new connection with the Goodwill Bridge made.
The site for the Amphitheatre was moved closer to the river and integrated with a food and beverage venue. This freed up space in the Botanical Gardens and allowed a significant amount of open space to be added to the garden.
Doing this resolved the logistics of servicing the venue and improved amenity & safety for all users.
The masterplan also allowed for the rejuvenation of the River Stage precinct, by increasing its legibility and wayfinding to the site.
